Carolina PazArtist and educatorCarolina Paz is an artist interested in small and ordinary, soft things, full-bodied, light pieces of materiality, and smooth or repeated gestures. She investigates these relationships through paintings, videos, objects, and participatory projects. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally, in museums, galleries, and residencies such as the SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York, NY; RAW POP UP, Miami, FL; Residency Unlimited, Brooklyn, NY; Virgilio Gallery, Baró Gallery, Zipper Gallery, São Paulo, Brazil; Goiania Art Museum, Goiania, Brazil; Cerveira Art Biennial Foundation, Cerveira, Portugal; National Museum Soares dos Reis, Porto, Portugal; Culture Centre Rector Ricardo Rojas, Buenos Aires, Argentina; among others. She is the recipient of the Funarte Visual Arts award. Her work is featured in the permanent collections of Rio de Janeiro Museum of Art, Luis Seoane Foundation, the Rio Grande do Sul Museum of Art, and Goiânia Museum of Art.
Carolina is the founder of Uncool Artist, created in Brooklyn in 2018, and the independent art space Coletivo 2e1, established in São Paulo in 2010.
She received a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences in 1999 and a master’s degree in Media and Knowledge in 2003 from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). She holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York.

Uncool Gallery is delighted to present its inaugural exhibition, “obsess and observe,” curated by Carolina Paz. Join us for the opening reception on June 6, 2024, from 6 to 8 PM at our new space located at 162 Flushing Ave, 1st Floor, Brooklyn, NY.
“obsess and observe” showcases the innovative and diverse works of twenty resident artists from the Winter/Spring 2024 UA Residency Program. These artists hail from across the United States and countries such as Canada, South Korea, Hong Kong, Romania, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and Poland. Their works navigate contrasts such as representation versus abstraction, and reality versus imagination, while exploring themes of fragments, repurposed finds, grief, intimacy, identity, and fantasy, all interwoven with their residency experiences.
The meticulous gestures and dedication of the artists are evident in their utilization of unconventional materials and experimental techniques. Through their creations, viewers can observe the profound impact of the residency on each artist’s growth and development, providing a unique reflection of their time in the program. The exhibition layout guides viewers from grounded works to suspended pieces, encouraging the exploration of the tensions between obsessive creation and objective observation within each artwork.
