UA Artist Talk with Llewellyn Skye

Artist Talk – A Presentation by Skye

Visual artist Llewellyn Skye and her soon-to-be podcast co-host, Deny. Together, they’ll dive into all things related to life as an artist, Skye’s evolving art practice since her transformative New York residency with Uncool Artist, her upcoming curatorial debut, and the leap into MFA life. It’s a real, energetic chat about creative pivots, artistic growth, and staying open to what’s next.

About the Artist

Paradoxical and unapologetic, Skye juxtaposes beauty with a potent blend of tranquility and turbulence. Actively seeking a collision of worlds where structure meets chaos, softness battles power, and tradition rebels against rebellion, Skye’s paintings push the boundaries of artistic orthodoxy with explosive energy and emotional charge. Aggressively beautiful, perplexing, and intriguing, Skye’s paintings are among those forging a new direction, challenging pre-conceived ideas of femininity, aesthetics, and the canon of floral painting.

Participating in over 60 exhibitions, including 12 solo shows, Skye is gaining recognition both locally and internationally. Her artistic achievements include being selected for the UA Artist Residency in New York in 2024, an invitation to exhibit at the prestigious King’s School Art Prize in 2024, and her recent solo exhibition at Australasia’s leading international art fair, Sydney Contemporary in 2023. Home Beautiful recognised Skye in their 20 Best and Brightest list in 2023, and in 2021, she won both the Fenton & Fenton Rising Talent Award and the ALA Abstract Artist Award, also winning the BLA Award in 2018. Skye was highly commended in the John Olsen drawing prize and selected for the Artegiro Artist Residency in Italy, in addition to various notable private and public commissions.
