UA Artist Talk with A/Bel Andrade

Our artist in residency, A/bel Andrade will share insights of their artistic practices, delving into the integration of traditional sculpting techniques with 3D printing and the many ways it can be used in an artistic practice. A/bel is currently developing a body of work that explores the impacts of inflammation on internal and external systems in the aftermath of the pandemic.

A/Bel Andrade, an interdisciplinary artist born in Wellington, New Zealand, and currently residing between Toronto, Canada, and New York City, identifies as transmasc and neurodivergent. Their artistic practice spans sculpture, metalworking, and performance art, often exploring themes of systemic collapse, rhizomatic intersections, and intentional failures. Bel integrates elements of their queer-crip identity into their work, aiming to disrupt systemic barriers and envision a crip-utopian future. They hold a Master’s in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design and a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from OCAD University. Bel has received various awards, including the Parsons School of Design Graduate Research Award and the ArtScape Foundation Launchpad Bursary.
