Bio

Paradoxical and unapologetic, Skye juxtaposes beauty with a potent blend of tranquility and turbulence. Actively seeking a collision of worlds where structure meets chaos, softness battles power, and tradition rebels against rebellion, Skye’s paintings push the boundaries of artistic orthodoxy with explosive energy and emotional charge. Aggressively beautiful, perplexing, and intriguing, Skye’s paintings are among those forging a new direction, challenging pre-conceived ideas of femininity, aesthetics, and the canon of floral painting.

Participating in over 60 exhibitions, including 12 solo shows, Skye is gaining recognition both locally and internationally. Her artistic achievements include being selected for the UA Artist Residency in New York in 2024, an invitation to exhibit at the prestigious King’s School Art Prize in 2024, and her recent solo exhibition at Australasia’s leading international art fair, Sydney Contemporary in 2023. Home Beautiful recognised Skye in their 20 Best and Brightest list in 2023, and in 2021, she won both the Fenton & Fenton Rising Talent Award and the ALA Abstract Artist Award, also winning the BLA Award in 2018. Skye was highly commended in the John Olsen drawing prize and selected for the Artegiro Artist Residency in Italy, in addition to various notable private and public commissions.

Statement

Statement

The theme of my work revolves around the paradox of life and love, taking inspiration from the Baroque period and the beauty and power of florals. As an artist, I try to capture the essence and emotion of my subjects, particularly the inexplicable energy that arises in fleeting moments of change. My studio is surrounded by floral still life constructions that inspire me to create. I start with a formal approach, focusing on composition, value, and form, but soon enough, I get carried away with the excitement of paint and abstraction. Bold marks, expressive gestures, and powerful lines become the driving force behind my work, consuming my thoughts day and night. I trust my intuition and paint from within, challenging the idea of beauty and perfection through a vigorous energy, raw emotion, and a passion that is beyond words.
