Bio

Victoria-anne Chianti Rosales is best known for her tightly rendered micron pen drawings, which she combines with textiles, found objects, and small sculpture forms that feature the disruption and absurdity of everyday items and experiences. The theatricality and characterization of items is equally fundamental in her work, as this adds to the element of distortion of the viewer’s familiarity with certain things, spaces, and emotions. Rosales wishes to continue this narrative to motivate others to examine and delve into themes of identity, expression, and imagination within her work and themselves.

Rosales was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, where she graduated with her BFA, with a concentration in Drawing and a minor in Theatre. She currently works and resides in Denver, Colorado.

Statement

Statement

As someone who has always felt that they don’t fit in, I treasure dejected, unsavory, and unconventional objects. I find great comfort in the abandoned tire on the side of the road, the ticket stub from a film that I viewed with a dear friend, or a bottle cap that had been tossed away once its purpose had been served. These items—  the feelings and circumstances around them—may be overlooked by some. However, I see potential in them. I have made it my mission to give them meaning, to place them on the pedestal that they deserve.

I use meticulous micron pen drawings in the majority of my work as it is the most essential tool in conveying my narrative of fabrication. The drawings are then either coupled with text, textiles, collage, and other found objects to incorporate both physical and metaphorical layers. By utilizing the viewer’s familiarity of these objects and taking them out of context, I hope to challenge them in determining how these aspects of my work shape their own identity, thoughts, and perception of the world.
