Bio

Yinna Higuera is a Colombo-Ecuadorian visual artist, photographer, and cultural manager with a background in psychology, pedagogy, and visual arts.

Her work explores themes such as identity, memory, gender, and the relationship between humans and their natural environment, using photography as a tool for reflection and social transformation. Through an approach that combines emotional introspection and social analysis, Yinna creates visual narratives that generate cultural impact and foster critical dialogue.

With over 10 years of experience, she has led artistic and educational projects that integrate photography with innovative methodologies. Her work incorporates experimental techniques such as double exposure, photo embroidery, and cyanotype, while also employing art therapy to explore new forms of expression and healing. She has participated in more than 40 individual and group exhibitions across Latin America, the United States, and Europe, including the International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Mérida, the Latin American Art Triennial “Abya Yala: Structural Origins” in New York, and “Bitácoras de una Matriz” in Santiago, Chile.

As the founder of the Colectivo Fotográfico SolipsisArt Ecuador, Yinna has contributed to the development of projects that integrate photography, identity, and collective memory, solidifying the collective as a benchmark for social and experimental photography in Ecuador. Additionally, during her tenure as president of the Asociación de Fotógrafos Ecuatorianos, she promoted the professionalization of the field and highlighted local talent. She is currently a member of the advisory council of PoyLatam and leads the Ecuadorian team for the 2025 World Photographic Cup.

Her educational and artistic work promotes photography as a means of empowerment and social change, reaffirming her commitment to art as a catalyst for cultural and human transformation.

Statement

Statement

As a visual artist and photographer, my creative practice is profoundly influenced by my background in psychology and pedagogy, integrating a perspective that feeds from both the art and the science of human behavior. My passion lies in documentary and artistic photography, which I use as a vehicle to explore and represent social situations that involve human emotions, gender dynamics, and the complex relationship between human beings and their natural environment. I aim to create visual narratives that challenge, question, and ultimately invite reflection and dialogue. My work is the result of a fusion between emotional introspection and social observation, where each image is an invitation to explore the depths of our humanity. Through social and artistic projects, I actively seek to contribute to the construction of a collective dialogue that highlights the importance of art and education as catalysts for social change. My goal is to use my art as a means to inspire, educate, and foster a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we live in
