Bio

Faye Harnest is an artist new to Brooklyn, NY, coming from Toronto, Canada. Harnest’s tactile works made of felt, and her illustrations on paper, are investigations into grief, motherhood, depression, anxiety, and disability identity. They use layers upon layers to represent the confusion and chaos of these experiences, while using color to its fullest to create excitement and joy.

Harnest is a certified braille transcriber and often uses embossed braille and forms made to be touched. She is a co-creator of The Braille Project, a series of large scale tactile paintings that has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Virginia, and Dubai, and Toronto. Her work as appeared in the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), Tangled Art + Disability Gallery (Toronto), in public installations in Brooklyn, and in publications such as SICK magazine, Riff Raff Anthology (from The Gutter), and A Handmade Assembly, an anthology of craft from Struts Gallery and Owen’s Art Gallery (New Brunswick, Canada). She is a former resident artist at Socially Distant Art, a program centred around accessibility and disability justice.
