Statement
| Statement |
Haylee’s current practice is grounded in sustained attention to care and empathy as both ethical commitments and formal strategies. Drawing from her lived experience of disability, including life with Type 1 Diabetes and Hashimoto’s disease, her work investigates fatigue and endurance as complex states that shape how bodies remain present in the world. Through alternative photographic processes, performance, and sculptural strategies, she focuses on living with fatigue, not merely as a symptom, but as a condition that resists visibility and demands new modes of representation. Her work employs direct physical contact with materials such as silver-gelatin paper and copper, using touch to record presence. These processes intentionally slow the act of image-making, complicating conventional definitions of photography while producing portraits and movements that emerge through duration and consideration. By maintaining a refractive studio practice, Haylee foregrounds art’s capacity to reshape attention. Her work invites viewers to slow down, witness without judgment, and consider care as a collective responsibility rather than an individual burden. |
